“A dormitory in which residents not only live together, but experience life together.” The collegium oecumenicum is an international student residence hall with its own library sponsored by the Christian Social Work chapter in Neuendettelsau. The dormitory is home to over 200 students studying a variety of subjects at the Otto-Friedrich University in Bamberg. A third of the residents are international students, giving the dorm an international flair. Experiencing life together – coe’s motto – can be realized in many different ways: cooking a meal together and eating out on the balcony, a spontaneous volleyball tournament or movie night in the cafeteria. Multiple common rooms offer residents the opportunity to get together, exchange views and opinions, and escape the stresses of university. The community that has been built offers a variety of ways to get involved. Besides parties and cocktails nights, regular presentations on a variety to up-to-date topics are held. Residents are encouraged to seek out their own interests among the variety of in-house clubs. For those interested in spiritual and theological related activities, coe holds Sunday, early morning, and prayer services. Residents are also given the freedom to furhter enrich the life at coe with their own talents. No semester is like the last. Especially the new residents breathe new life into the community. We also love to share the spirit of our dorm with visitors and guests. “coe is what you make out of it!” That’s how we live here at coe.
